Frequently Asked Questions

Help I have a question about Jamsara - what should I do?

First, if you don't mind, please check this FAQ. If you can't find the answer here, send us an email at jamsara.support@gmail.com.

I have a great idea for a new feature, what should I do?

Shoot us an email at jamsara.support@gmail.com! We can't make any promises, but we love to incorporate new ideas to keep improving the software.

What hardware do I need to run Jamsara?

Jamsara is a desktop application. So it's not designed to work in a web browser or on your phone. At the moment it is only available for Windows, but a MacOS version is coming very soon.

If you want to record your playing, we recommend an external audio interface, and when recording, you will want to route the speaker outputs and the instruments through this same interface to avoid latency and clock drift. We are planning a future article on audio setup.

Also, note that Jamsara does not currently support VST plugins. But you can route your hardware synths and amps into it for recording.

What's the deal with all the animals dressed as humans?

I dunno, we just kind of find them amusing. I mean, aren't we all basically animals walking around dressed like humans? I guess that's why we adopted them as mascots for our releases.

My (Brian's) wife originally painted each animal by hand in watercolor. We occasionally use A.I. to put them in new situations and scenes. That way we don't have to ask her every time. (She thanks us for that.)

What is your take on A.I.?

Deep ambivalence. Almost every introverted, creative, crafty, or intellectual thing that we love to do here - music, art, software development, even technical writing and data science - is being changed, automated, reconfigured, and, in a sense, devalued, by forces beyond our control. And at the moment, it sometimes seems like a few powerful companies have taken control of our future in ways that only a few years ago would have seemed unimaginable.

Having said that, we also think that AI has the potential to empower small teams and individual creators in new ways that that only a few years ago would have seemed unimaginable.

In any event, we do make use of A.I. tools to help us develop Jamsara more efficiently than would have otherwise been possible. At the end of the day, we are mainly just interested in making tools that help musicians improve and enjoy their craft.
